Network Ten Broadcasts in August

Network Ten continued to screen Season Six repeats on Sundays at 7:00pm, followed by the first set of Season Seven repeats at 7:30pm. Unfortunately, they returned to removing the intervening credits and opening sequence between the two episodes. Weekday stripping also continued, as the end of Season Two and the first half of Season Three were shown at 7:00pm, weekdays.

In August of 1997, Foxtel more than tripled the number of episodes of The Simpsons showing every day. Rather than screening a single episode each day in two different timeslots, August saw the emergence of three, independent streams of episodes. The sequence of episodes that had been playing previously was shifted to a more remote timeslot, namely 11:00pm weekdays and 6:00pm on weekends. Two new streams were born, both starting with episodes from season three. The first involved two episodes being shown each morning at 7:00am, then repeated at 6:30pm in the evening. Nearly all of the episode names for this stream were provided in the Foxtel Guide, and it has so far proved to be the most reliable sequence to predict. On weekends, Foxtel introduced Super Simpsons Saturday and Sunday, with three hours of Simpsons fun from 8:00am to 11am. The original plan was to show six episodes every day, and this was reflected in the Foxtel Guide. Only the names of three episodes were shown in the Guide each day, and this ended up proving useful for the programmers, as they quickly realised filling the gaps between episodes with Fox Kids Musical Moments was not a popular move. After only one week, Foxtel switched to using seven episodes to fill the three hours. Of course, this threw the remaining schedule into chaos, as episodes not appearing in the Foxtel Guide (for both August and September, as the September Guide was already past its submissions deadline) were advanced to fill in the gaps. Add to this a number of skipped episodes, and it became difficult to predict which would be screened when.

After a week's hiatus, the Comedy Channel continued to screen Season Three of The Tracey Ullman Show in a new timeslot. Three episodes were shown each week, at 6:30pm, Tuesday to Thursday. The same episode was repeated at 1pm the following day.
