Introduction to The Tracey Ullman Show

Prior to appearing in their own show, our friends appeared as shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show, one of the first programs on the then-new Fox Network in the U.S. in the mid 1980s. It's basically a sketch comedy show, including lots of singing and dancing. The Simpsons appear as short, animated sketches, interspersed between the main, live-action sketches.

These classic clips could be seen, during 1997, on The Comedy Channel -- channel 33 on Foxtel, part of the Entertainment Plus package.

The Tracey Ullman Show was screened every day from March to June 1997. During July, it was only shown on weekends; in August, three episodes were shown per week, each repeated once. September readjusted this to four days a week, without repeats, plus three screenings of the one hour special from Season Three. October followed from September, finishing off Series Four episodes on the 14th. Unfortunately, this was the last time The Tracey Ullman Show would be seen on the Comedy Channel.

Because Foxtel didn't always screen the episodes in order, I constructed the Episode Guide to help identify each episode from its first sketch. I've also compiled extensive information regarding where the Simpsons appear in relation to other sketches and ads. This should help anyone trying to record the Simpsons shorts.

The Tracey Ullman Show on Foxtel

This section is a list of those episodes of The Tracey Ullman Show which were screened on Foxtel in 1997. The list covers nearly all episodes from June to October 1997. If trying to predict the order in which episodes will be screened, the best strategy is to extract the standard screening order from the table below and then use my Episode Guide to identify each episode from the name of the first sketch.

Note: The Comedy Channel no longer has the rights to The Tracey Ullman Show. But the ABC is screening the Emmy Award-winning Tracey Takes On... on Friday nights.
